Hi folks at WCHA, I have an Old Town canoe serial #222420 It has what looks like an inlaid parquet floor and fiberglass shell. Any info, history, and approx. value would be gratefully appreciated. THX KO

The Old Town canoe with serial number 222240 is a 16 foot long fiberglass Carleton Adventurer model. It was built in August, 1978. The original exterior gelcoat color was blue. It shipped on September 21st, 1978 to Newbury, Mass. The back side of the card indicates that it had some soft spots on the bottom and had moved to Fall River, Mass. by April 8th, 1979 after it was sold from the dealer. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join. Your donation to the organization is much appreciated.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The wood in the floor is end grain balsa. The messages at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57 describe how difficult it is to value wooden canoes and fiberglass ones aren't any easier. Most seem to sell for a few hundred dollars. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
