I bought an Old Town canoe with serial number XTC45351M82. This would be made in 1982, but what model is this and what is th hull material?

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with the hull identification number of XTC45351M82L or serial number 245351 is a experimental 17 foot long Acadia model that weighed 76 pounds. The hull was made out of Rovel or Olefin Acrylonitrile-Styrene (OAS) plastic. This is similar to the more common Oltonar/Royalex/ABS plastic. It was built in July, 1982. The original exterior vinyl color was white. It was noted as lost on June 30th, 1983. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. This model was introduced in the 1983 catalog as shown at https://forums.wcha.org/attachments/54316/ and in the link below. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question,

Benson
