Found this on that well known auction site listed as "L71921 16". Pretty sure the "L" is a one. This one is out in Minnesota...

The Old Town canoe with serial number 171921 is a 16 foot long guide model with half ribs and a keel. It was built between March, 1962 and September, 1963. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green. It was shipped on November 22nd, 1963 to Minneapolis, Minn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. The seller claims "This canoe was given to my deceased brother as a wedding gift in 1965 and was brand new at that point" but it shipped to a YMCA camp two years before that. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. This canoe seems to be in reasonably good shape but I would be inclined to make an offer for considerably less than the asking price. Good luck,

Benson

Thank you. I'm deciding if I am hunting for a 100 year old boat or one that was born when I was, I guess I'll know when I see it...
