We have an Old Town s/n 141927. It might have been a graduation gift to mother in law in the 40's. It was completed redone within the last 20 years - I think by Old Town.

Any information would be appreciated.
thanks,
Steve

The Old Town canoe with serial number 141927 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense) grade, Yankee model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between April and July, 1945. The original exterior paint color was bright red with a G. S. (Guide's Special) green bottom. It was shipped on July 13th, 1945 to Pentwater, Michigan. . A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Thanks for the quick reply. If this Old Town had been reconditioned at the factory within the last 20 years - would your records show this?

Steve

Repairs were usually noted on the back side of the build record but it appears that the back side of yours is blank since it wasn't scanned. Old Town has not been keeping many paper records for the last twenty years and the repair records are particularly sparse during this period. I also looked for any reference to your serial number in the separate repairs box but found nothing. Sorry,

Benson
