Hi guys,
This is my first canoe, and in searching im coming up with conflicting info on my serial number. This is taken off the title, so I am assumin it's correct since I can't verify at the moment.

Thanks for your help.

Hello-- Old Town places the serial number on the stem of the canoe, at each end. It would consist of 5 or 6 numbers followed by a space and the length of the canoe-- 123456 16 for instance. If we have this number, we can pull up a copy of the original build record, provided the number is below 210999.

The number you provided is a Coast Guard number. The information at http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm may help you decode this number.

I hope this helps!

That helps a lot Kathy. Thanks. However I couldnt find the other number. I assumed you meant stern not stem. Is there a stem? Im a total noob. Thanks again

Oh-- okay, then what you have to go by is the HIN... which says this is an Old Town canoe, serial number 811471 that was registered June 9, 1987. Our records end with canoe number 210999, so don't go high enough for you. You may be able to get more information from Old Town itself. My guess is that your canoe dates from 1987.

If you're truly interested in having a wooden canoe some day, look around this website and check out the classifieds. For years I pined for a wooden canoe. The local sporting goods shop had an Old Town that was many thousands of dollars... I didn't know I could get a used one... even a very inexpensive one.
