The Old Town canoe with serial number 72772 is shown as 16 feet long, CS (common sense or standard) grade, Otca model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, seats, and thwarts, and equipped with a keel.. The canoe was built between June and September 1922. The original exterior paint color was, I think, dark green. It was shipped to Bantam, Connecticut on May 11, 1923.
It was returned on June 29, 1923 because of shipping damage -- "bow end crushed." The details of the repairs and damage claim are on the back of the build record. A scan of this build record, both sides, can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail images attached below.
This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.
Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
