I have been restoring an Old Town OTCA. I lost the copy of original build record copy from 20 years ago when I purchased from Zelienople, PA. I would appreciate any information. Thank you.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 129938 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales and a keel. It was built between April and July, 1940. The original exterior paint color was a very pale light blue to match a sample that had been provided. It was shipped on August 30th, 1940 to Chambersburg, Penna. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the information. The canoe has a keel, The inner gunwale is spruce. The coaming looks like white oak . The deck is ash . The outer gunwale is definitely mahagony. I wonder if it was replaced in a previous restoration when it was fiberglassed but the stem, deck, inner gunwale and outer gunwale were all equally rotted. The light blue color is a surprise.
