Old Town HW Serial Number 148412

Oops! There was a "1" hiding there. So the serial number is 148412. Not a subtle difference!

This canoe was once owned by Carl Hoth, founder of the WCHA "s Northwest Chapter, and has been passed down within the chapter. Our Spring Meet tomorrow will be its first time in the water in a number of years, and it will meet its new/future owners, ages 3 and 6. Its name on the bow is "The Explorer". Smooth waters, Explorer!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 148412 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, and a keel. It was built between April and June, 1947. The original exterior paint color was bright green. It shipped on July 8th, 1947 to Patterson, New Jersey. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. Sorry Benson, Thank you for your very fast response. We missed the first digit in the serial number, so 148412. And this is 17 feet, as stamped on the opposite stem.
