Hello,
I have a 15ft Old Town Canoe with serial number 173627 - 15. Can someone tell me what year this was built and any other information contained in this serial number?
Thank you,
Chris

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 173627 is a 15 foot long fifty pound model with a keel. It was built between January and March, 1964. The original exterior paint was Dupont white enamel with a design similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design04.gif which was known as their design number four. It shipped on March 31st, 1964 to Newington, Connecticut. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match. Please attach a picture if the original design is still showing. Let me know if you have any other questions.
