Old Town Canoe

David,

The Canoe with that number is a 16' 1930 Old Town HW in AA grade with mahogany open rails. It came with Floor Racks and Sponsons and was painted Dark Green. It was delivered in May 1930 to Klinger Lake (near Sturgis) Michigan. A scan of the build record is attached.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your response. The canoe, #104471 16, has the complete sailing package: lee boards, rudder, mast and supports, as well as a rowing package with oar locks on the sponsons and an ajustable seat with seat back and foot supports. I guess my question is, is this factory supplied, as it wasn't listed on the build sheet, or was someone making these add-ons?
A lot of work was put into these add-ons as they look factory.

They don't show on the build record and the back of the record was not scanned, indicating that there was nothing there (or the scanner missed it) Mayn ot the OT aftermarket items had a decal - look for reminants or a shadow. Post some pictures of the boat and accessories, maybe someone here would like to venture a guess. There are quite a few people with collections that include sailing rigs - they might be helpful.

Sounds like you have a nice boat.
