Hi there I’m new to the forum and I’m trying to get a date and model of a used Old Town Canoe I just bought. The number stamped into the plastic is 216828. The number on a plate is XTC15328431A. I was told it was Royalex Pathfinder from1980. Thanks in advance.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 216828 is an 15 foot long Chipewyan Pathfinder model that weighed 65 pounds with aluminum inserts in the rails. It was built in March 1977. The original exterior color was avocado. It shipped on August 20th, 1980 to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The back side indicates that it had some scratches on the inside along with skuffs and scratches on the outside of the hull on the bottom. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
