Hello from Oklahoma! One of these beauties finally made its way down here close enough for me to buy it. I have been wanting an old canoe for years! Very excited about my find.

I would like information on Serial # 150309 17 are the numbers in my boat. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations!

Old Town 150309 is a 17 foot CS ("common sense") grade Otca model canoe finished between February and June of 1948. It has red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, half-ribs, a keel and outside stems. Painted dark (?-- hard to read) green, it was shipped to Fort Worth, Texas, on July 12, 1951.

There are enough details here for you to determine if this is your canoe--sounds very nice! Love those outside stems and half ribs on a CS grade canoe!

At this point, I'd be telling you that your scan is attached, but my computer has crashed again (I will not name-names, but it's a four-letter word beginning with a "D" and ending with an "L"). I do have a backup comp but will need to install something to convert the file before I can upload it.... so, it'll be available for you eventually.

If someone else with the OT CDs gets to this thread before I've posted the build record, it's scan number 00695A.

Does your canoe need any work? I hope you know we love pictures....

The scan...

The scan of your build record is below-- click on it for a more readable size. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description don't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Kathy

Kathryn, we have a saying about the computers that have a name that begins with "D" and ends with "L".
They are D--l's from begins with "H" and ends with "L".;)

Thank you Kathryn!

Thanks so much!! Yes it does need some work but is reasonably good shape. What is the best material to use to strip down the interior of the boat??

Thanks again!
