Old Town 80046

Looking for the history on this boat--My friend bought it and is looking to restorit but we want to go back as from the original boat.

I've looked through the scans of the build records. Old Town number 80046 is missing. The numbers on either side are there, indicating the boat was built in 1923, but I can't find any other record. It might have been skipped in the scanning process or it might have been missing. Sorry.

I stopped in the factory today and it is my sad duty to inform you that this card has been mis-filed or lost. It does not appear to be in the original box. Sorry,

Interested in researching my Old Town serial number 79255. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob,

Old Town #79255 was a 17-foot CS (or common sense) grade canoe built either on the HW mold on the Charles River mold (the build record may indicate either?). It had open spruce gunwales and birch decks, thwarts, and seats. It had a keel. It's original color was dark green. The boat was built in 1923 and shipped to New Hampshire.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

If you are selling your canoe and plan to use this build record information as part of an ad, please consider giving the WCHA credit for this information on eBay or craigslist or wherever your canoe is listed.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Norm
