It appears there might have been a 1 in front making it 144574, it is not clear.
But it is a 12 foot canoe.

Hi Bill--
Old Town canoe 144574 is a 13 foot AA grade fifty pounder with open mahogany rails and a floor rack. It was painted white and shipped May 18, 1946 to the Pikes Peak Chapter of the American Red Cross in Colorado Springs, CO.
44574 is a 16 foot CS grade Charles River, so the other canoe appears to be a better fit. If neither seems likely, we can try again!
I've wondered if canoes that were used at camps and by groups such as the Red Cross would have archives with pictures that might include the canoe... would be interesting to add to the canoe's history.

Thank you for the quick response
144574 is covered with three layers of fiberglass, with the worse job I have ever seen. I am not sure I will be able to save the canoe, but I will give it a try by soaking it in water for a few days and pray that the fiberglass will seperate from the planking.

Beyond reasonable repair
13 broken ribs, gunwales and keel dry rot. the planking is shredding as I remove the fiberglass. For the time and cost of restoring this canoe I can build a new one. This canoe is now off to the trash pile.

it's just "rustic"
A few things to consider as you head for the burn pile:
(1)There's a quote that begins, "Give me one rib..."
(2)You never know what someone might want hanging from the ceiling of their lake cottage... especially if it is an Old Town with a build record.
(3)I'd say something about bookcases, but that can be a tough door to open...
(4)You can list free stuff in the classifieds on this website and also on craigslist.
(5)My guess is, if you stuck it next to the road with a sign saying "FREE", it would disappear.
