Old Town #41777

If your canoe looks like an Otca then my guess is that you actually have serial number 141777 since the one with 41777 is an Ideal model with short decks. The Old Town canoe with serial number 141777 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel and outside stems. It was built between March and June, 1945. The original exterior paint color was white enamel. It shipped on June 21st, 1945 to Winter, Wisconsin. A scan of this build record the one for 41777 can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Thanks Benson, It is the 1918 Ideal model that was shipped to Tunkhannock which is only a few miles from here. Thanks for the info.

Does it have long decks like an older Otca and can you attach some pictures? Thanks,

Benson
