Old Town 21462

Hello--

Old Town 21462 is an 18' CS (common sense or middle) grade Charles River model canoe that was finished March-May of 1912, with red Western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, birch decks, ash thwarts and seat frames, a keel, outside stems, a floor rack and a painter ring. It was painted black with "Wild Cat" in Old English lettering in gold, with a gold stripe below the gunwale (as I interpret it, at any rate!). This canoe would pre-date diamond head bolts, so don't expect to find any unless they were added later... also, it should have closed gunwales. It was shipped to St. Louis, Missouri, on May 16, 1912. Image of the scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Sorry, wrong number

The canoe in question is a 17 foot OT, so we pulled the canoe out into the sunlight and looked again. Darn if that 6 didn't look better as a 5. Actually, the number is 21452. Sorry to have to ask you to search again, but would you provide us with information on 21452? Thank you.
