Old Town Guide Canoe

Hello,
Can anyone let me know what year an Old Town Guide 16' wood/fiberglass canoe was built? S/N 786854.
Thanks!

This is from a period when Old Town's record keeping was no longer being done on paper so there may not be any more information available. It should have a hull identification number (HIN) on the starboard stern that begins with XTC and ends with an encoded date. The page at http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm has more information about interpreting a HIN. Please post some pictures of the canoe and the HIN here. See http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?12723 for a similar request. Thanks,

Benson

Thanks for the information Benson, I don't own the canoe yet, I just checked it out last weekend. If it did have a HIN then it was not obvious to me and I looked the boat over pretty well.I believe that this canoe has seen little use as the owner told me that the canoe was too heavy for him and his wife to carry. I am hoping to strike a deal with the owner this week, at that point I will post some photos. Again thanks for your reply!

Old Town Canoe S/N 786854

IMG_0181.jpgI have some photos of S/N 786854, The canoe is a 16' Wood/Canvas Guide Model. It looks to have been used very little, No HIN number on the boat.Options are as follows, Outside stems, Rub-Rails,Full length stem band, Painter rings and Two tone paint. Jerry at Island Falls Canoe told me that their production started at about S/N 787XXX, So can I presume that this was a late production canoe built by the Old Town factory? Someone suggested to me that this may be a centennial model, but I would have no idea, and Old Town Customer Service was not able to give me any info. Thanks in advance for any information. I look forward to getting out while the weather is still good!

My records show that number 786865 shipped in 2002 so yours probably was built then or shortly before. See the information and pictures at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?14187 for a similar canoe with HIN. I was in the Old Town records room yesterday and didn't find any anything from the 786xxx range so it appears that no other information is available. Sorry,

Benson

Benson,

Thank you for your time and effort! I am very happy to know that I have a wood / canvas canoe that was built by the Old Town Canoe Company. New owners like myself are very fortunate to be able to have access to the knowledge and information that the WCHA forum provides.

Thanks Again,
Neal
