I would like to get information on this canoe. My husband got it in the late 60’s, I think, and lovingly cared for it. He passed away, and regrettably I need to sell it, (many nice memories though.) I would like to determine its value and don’t know where to start.

Welcome and I'm sorry for your loss, the Old Town canoe with serial number 181120 is a 15 foot long Light Weight model with a keel. It was built in July, 1968. The original exterior canvas covering was painted red. It shipped on July 30th, 1968 to Downers Grove, Illinois. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/join to donate or join.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. The information at the first link below may help you value it. A key factor will be how badly it leaks which usually requires a water test. The similar canoes listed in the past at https://wcha.org/classified-archive/Old-Town-Lightweight.html may also help. A listing in the WCHA classifieds at https://www.woodencanoe.org/classifieds will usually be the fastest way to find a good new home for an old canoe like this. The link at https://www.woodencanoe.org/ad-instructions explains the process. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sale,

Benson
