Old Town #179516

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 179516 is a 17 foot long Otca model with a keel. It was built between December, 1967 and January, 1968. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on March 29th, 1968 to Titusville, New Jersey. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Old Town was using marine enamel paints during this period. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Mark,
The build record does not list the wood types used but typically the ribs would be White Cedar, planking Western Red Cedar, inwales of Spruce, decks, thwarts and seat frames of some type of hardwood, Oak, Ash, Birch or Mahogany. The outwales could also be Mahogany. Post a couple pictures and I'm sure someone will chime in with ideas on the species.
Welcome to membership. A wealth of info can be found here on the forums if your canoe needs a little TLC.
