Hi Chris,
Old Town 178785 is a 16 foot Otca model canoe that was completed August 1967 to February 1968. It has half ribs, a keel with full length stem band, painter rings, and a floor rack and was originally painted dark green. It was shipped to A.C. Lamb and Sons of Liverpool, NY, on February 28, 1968.
The 16 foot Otca of this era was built on the retired Yankee form and has the traditional short Old Town deck and not the longer Otca deck with coaming.
A full length stem band is exactly what it sounds like-- goes from the tip of the bow, all the way along the keel, and comes up the other side to the tip of the stern.
Painter rings are designed to hold a rope, or "painter". You maybe know this stuff but many people show up here to read build records and it helps others understand what we're talking about.
The scan of your record is attached below-- click on it to see a larger version. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
