Old Town # 166435

The Old Town canoe with serial number 166435 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with a keel. It was built between July and August, 1957. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on August 16th, 1957 to Keene, New Hampshire. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that they could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you Mr. Gray for your quick response. I gave my grandmother a tour of the WCHA site and showed her how many people enjoy and how nice these old canoes are. I showed her the classifieds and the wonderfull boats for sale there. After we were done she thanked me for the education on the Old Town canoe she had given me and promptly took it back! She is 92. Oh well it was a fun refinish project anyway. Maybe one day our paths will cross again.
