Old Town 16 footer

Mike Heines

Upstate Canoe Sailor
Hi - I just picked up a 16 foot Old Town (most of the gold and black decal is still there) and it has # 66629 16. It was described to me as a "Lake Model", but I think that's because it was used on the Finger Lakes of New York State. Supposedly purchased from Miss Cleo's in Geneva NY. Is there a build record for this canoe, and if so may I please have a digital copy? Thanks.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 66629 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between July, 1921 and May, 1922. The original exterior paint color was brown. It shipped on June 6th, 1922 to Geneva, New York.

A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

Please reply here if you have any other questions.
