New WCHA member here. Recently inherited 16ft green Old Town SN 150625 from my father. It's in good original condition, has been painted a few times but was always green, I'm told. I believe he was the original purchaser, from around 1950 in the York, PA area? Would love any information and a look at the build card.

Welcome to the WCHA. The Old Town canoe with serial number 150625 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with white Maine cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, a keel, and sponsons. It was built between March, 1948 and April, 1949. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 26th, 1949 to Washington, D. C.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to renew.

You may have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Please feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you!

Benson, thanks so much! Everything adds up except the sponsons, which don't seem to appear even in family photos of the boat from early in its life. The number on the canoe is clear, so they were either removed very early on, or never put on, I guess. It's only been on the water a few times in the last 20 years, but I intend to both paddle it and keep it well. I'm sure WCHA will be a great resource for me.

Well, that is probably just a stray mark on the sponson line. It is nice to have a canoe with some history,
