Here is what I do know. This 18 foot canoe came from the Grand River watershed in Michigan to a storage shed nearer to an Eastern Michigan watershed. Then when I bought it it came home to the river that it spent most of its time.
It has a considerable amount of work that is needed. With 18 broken ribs in the mid section and both inner and outer gunwales rotted and broken. Some of the hull is in need of repair, and the sponsons also need repair.

Here is what I dont know: What kind of wood was used to build this canoe. From the hull to the decks and even the floor rack( I can see it had one from the way the varnish is shaded.)

I am surprised that the post right before this one has a serial number so close.
Thank you for your help in getting some answers to some of my silly questions.

It's never happened to me before, where I've had the section of the records open to the exact place I needed for the next build record request! An interesting coincidence...

Old Town 149322 is an 18 foot AA grade (top grade) HW model canoe built between July of 1947 and March of 1948. It has red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, a keel, floor rack, and sponsons. The trim-- decks, thwarts, and seat frames-- are mahogany on an AA grade Old Town. The canoe was originally painted dark green and shipped to the Murray Boat Shop in Traverse City, Michigan on April 5, 1948.

If this doesn't fit your boat, we can try again... but details do appear to be right.

A copy of the scan of this record is attached below. Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details.
