The Old Town canoe with serial number 139814 is a 17 feet long, AA (top or premium) grade HW (heavy water) model with western red cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, ash decks, thwarts, and seats, equiped with a floor rack and a keel. The canoe was built between April and June 1944. The original exterior paint was maroon. It was shipped to Newark New Jersey on July 1, 1944. AA grade canoes typically had mahogany decks, thwarts, and seats -- wartime shortage of material is likely the reason for ash rather than mahogany on this canoe

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.
