Could I have the build record for Old Town 117895-17? It could be 11789, the last digit doesn't look right.

Thanks!

Hi Steve-- We need to try some other numbers, as 117895 is an 11 foot fifty pounder and 11789 is a 20 foot CS grade IF (Ideal Fisherman).

See if this fits: 117890 is a 17 foot AA grade Otca model canoe, with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, thwarts and seat frames, outside stems, a keel, a mast seat and step, and sponsons. It originally was decorated with Old Town design #37. It was shipped to Valley Falls, RI, November 1, 1937. I (or someone else) can try again if this record doesn't match what you have.

Hi Steve,

I'm sure you've thought of this, but what about the other stem? Maybe that number is clearer. Also, what does the canoe look like? What model? Trim material? Outside stems? It appears to have had a floor rack. These details could be helpful. The serial number in your photos - looks pretty clear that it's 11789X; could the last digit be "9" or maybe an upside-down "6"?

How about this --

The Old Town canoe with serial number 117899 is 17 feet long, CS (common sense or standard), an Otca model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, thwarts and seats and was equipped with a keel and floor rack. It was built between May and July 1936. The exterior was originally dark green. It was shipped on July 6, 1936 to East Hartford, Connecticut. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail image attached below.

I guess Greg is the winner this time! I used a little 87 octane stem cleaning solvent on the other end this morning and 117899 appears to be faintly visible.
Thanks for everyone's help.
