Old Town 102613 - 17

The Old Town canoe with serial number 102613 is a 17 foot long, AA grade, Otca model with Western red cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, a keel and a floor rack. It was built between July and September, 1929. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It was shipped on April 2nd, 1939 to Auburn(?), New York. The note on the back side of this record indicates that it was in Ithica, New York in 1981 when a previous request for a copy of the build record was answered. Bilge Keels
Thanks for the Build Record Benson. This is likely the canoe.
Did Old Town offer a Bilge Keel option? There are filled screw holes on each side of the center keel in the bilge suggesting bilge keels were present. I've seen these on Canadian canoes, but not Old Towns. This canoe spent it's life on Cayuga Lake in NY and there have been some professional looking repairs, so maybe they were skillfully added at some point and removed.

Yes, Old Town would frequently put bilge keels on although they were usually noted on the build records as shown at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=169&d=1106412999 and http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=846&d=1129515539 when they were done at the factory. My guess is that the ones on this canoe were added later.
