Old Peterborough serial number plate.

ANyone know anything about this boat. The first number appears to be 16, it's a 16 foot boat... the serial number appears to be either 1355 or f355.

The first number, 16 is actually the model #. The second number 1355 is the work order number.
Unfortunately the work order or serial number if you will, tells us nothing as the records were destroyed or lost when the company went into bankruptcy in 1962.

The model was called 16 or 16S. It was introduced in the fall of 1930 as a special grade canoe, built on the same form as the company's "Otonabee" model. It was a lower grade canoe with a much lower price, at the time the Otonabee sold for $82 and the 16S sold for $62.
In 1936 it was renamed "Champlain" with model # 26P and in 1939 the model # changed again to 1434.
