LOVES Wooden Canoes
Here are a few updates since out Chapter meeting on March 22.

The Collaboration with the Leacock Museum in Orillia is taking place on Saturday May from 1 to 4 pm. We will have a display set up and canoes on display, We can arrive an hour before to setup. We've also been granted permission to launch our boats from their property shoreline and even do some sort of paddling demonstration. However this can't involve any sort of audience participation by the attending public. There will be a modest fee (around the $10 range) for folks wishing to actually tour the museum and/or see the new exhibit in the boathouse, but there is no other associated cost for us to set up displays on the property. We will still be able to fundraise by selling stuff. .During our meeting several people volunteered to help. For the folks that have not yet confirmed, could you please send a note to Murat (mvardar@rogers.ca) about whether you can attend and if so, what you might be able to bring such as canoes, historic paddles, displays? The organizers need to know how many people we will have attending. We are hoping to have a Canadian Style Solo demo. To read more about what the Museum has planned please have a look on our website at https://wcha-northernlakes.blogspot.com/2023/01/collaboration-with-leacock-museum.html If anyone is interested in a Chapter paddle after the event, or on Sunday May 21, please let Alex or Murat know and we can arrange something, even if it's off the shores of the Museum's property.

The Rideau Paddlefest is taking place in Smiths Falls on Saturday June 17. We are able to have a booth at no cost (but will be limited to just being an exhibitor and not a vendor). The current plan is for the event to run from 1 pm - 9 pm at Lower Reach Park where there is direct access to the water. They will have Voyageur canoe brigades doing races and paddling tours for the public. Other organizations will have some educational displays and plans are for live music and other entertainment. The event culminates with a launching of everyone's boats and a short night-time paddle parade along this protected stretch of water between 2 locks. They are asking participants to bring lights for the paddle craft.
If you are interested in attending this as part of a Northern Lakes / WCHA display please let Alex know as soon as possible. I'd like to attend but if we don't have other members there I doubt I would go . We could also arrange a Chapter paddle for Sunday Jun 18 if there is interest. The only downside to this weekend is it's Father's Day weekend.

The Temagami Canoe Festival that usually runs un mid July has been postponed until 2024.

The Oxtongue River Silent Boat Rally in Dwight, on July 29. If you plan on attending would you be interested in a tour of a Builder's workshop? Murat mentioned there are several in the area, and if we have some interest from members we would approach some of them to see if they would accommodate a Chapter tour. Please let Alex or Murat know.

Plans for the upcoming collaboration with the Leacock Museum National Historic Site have been progressing well. Six Chapter members have thus far confirmed their attendance and will be bringing a variety of displays and canoes to exhibit. The event is now being promoted on the official City of Orillia website as an activity for the May Long Weekend holiday. Promotional graphics and additional info have been released to spread the word.

The Leacock Museum has made this a ticketed event for the public. However, there is no cost to exhibitors. All Northern Lakes chapter members are welcome to attend even if you cannot bring a boat. If interested get in touch with Murat (mvardar2889 @ gmail.com).
