I cannot speak to what high prices may have been paid at auction for full-size Old Town or Chestnut canoes, but perhaps $5,000 +/- (or upwards) would not surprise me. During the past ten years or so, canoes by the late Walter Walker have been much in demand in Southern Ontario, and short in supply. I believe one was sold not long ago at a Canadian Canoe Museum auction for around CAN$8,000 (US$6,000), and I know of other private sales that went down in the CAN$10,000 range (US$8,000). These are canoes built in the last 40 years or so. Exceedingly rare 100+year old antiques in mint shape or close could well bring more from the right collector in competitive circumstances.
