Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
This past weekend I put new canvas on the Otca that I am restoring. I used the conventional "right side up method." When I was finished there were a few small "darts" of canvas running down a couple of inches from the shear line that I couldn't get out. I was sure that they would show through the filler and paint. It then occured to me that artists, when stretching canvas on their frames, shrink it by wetting it and drying it with a heat gun. So I wet the offending areas and used a heat gun on it - like magic they were gone! Maybe this is old news to you pros out there but it was quite an Epiphany for me.
