Hi all,
I'm hoping to tap into the community's collective wisdom. I have a hand-built 18' cedar strip sea kayak (varnished, with an inlaid compass and decorative wood accents) that needs to travel from Dennis, MA to Erie, CO. Weight is roughly 50-80 lbs.
I've reached out to KAS Transport and posted on uShip, but haven't had luck yet — that route doesn't seem to be a common one. Given the boat is hand-built and fragile, I really want to find someone experienced with wood strip boats specifically, rather than a general freight carrier who might not know how to support the hull properly along its length.
A few questions for the group:
Timing is flexible on my end, so I'm happy to wait for the right match rather than rush it into the hands of someone who isn't set up for this kind of boat. Happy to share photos if helpful — it's a boat I'd really like to see arrive in one piece.
Thanks in advance for any leads,
Bob

A few questions for the group:
- Does anyone know an independent hauler who runs routes toward Colorado, or who might be passing through that way?
- Has anyone here shipped a boat this distance recently, and if so, who did you use and how did it go?
- Is there anyone in the Cape Cod area or Colorado Front Range who might know of a hauler, or even be willing to help coordinate a relay/handoff?
