Need help identifying

This half of a canoe was procured in Maine in the Seventies and recently inherited due to the passing of the original owner. Could anybody help identify the builder and or age by looking at it ? There are no plaques or markings. I was told it was from an Indian tribe in Maine from the late 1800s. Who knows better than this club ? The hardware on the inside was added by the owner to put plates on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome, the short rail caps and heart shaped decks indicate that it might have come from the Kennebec Canoe Company in Waterville, Maine. There should be a serial number on the inside stem which could confirm this guess. The information at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?threads/791/ may help you find these numbers. Good luck,
