Need help Identifying 40's Old Town Canoe

Rustic Timbers

I Have a Rustic Furniture Store & one of my venders is a antique canoe enthusiast. He brings us canoes when he finds them which make great display pieces. We currently have a 1940's model 16' canoe...the Serial # 135553. I was hoping to get a copy of the Build Card for it. Would greatly appreciate anything you can come up with on it.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 135553 is a 15 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Ojibway model with open spruce gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, no seats, and a keel. It was built between June, 1942 and December, 1943. The original exterior paint color was aluminum. It shipped on December 17th, 1943 to Grand Rapids, Michigan. A scan of this build record is attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Can you provide a picture of the deck? Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks,

Benson
