My new Kennebec Kineo #2305 ???

Hi. I am the new proud owner of a Kennebec Kineo #2305. Also stamped into the wood looks like "24A" above the brass plate, as well as possibly the maker's stamp / name - L HACK. Can anyone help provide me with any info (date, etc) for my new vessel. It is in pretty good shape. Light green paint with dark green stripe - yellow pinstripe.

"24 A" is also painted on the side of the bow, so I'm guessing it belonged to a lodge or something and that was an identifying number. Maybe someone has some insight on this...

No seats, so i must do that, plus recanvasing and some trim refinshing / repair. Then it goes in the water!

The Kennebec canoe with serial number 2305 is a 16 foot long Kennebec model type A as shown on pages 60 and 61 of volume one in the Kennebec ledgers. It had spruce rails, cedar stems, and red Western cedar planking. This was planked by Camp on November 12th, 1911. The decks were 15-m (15 inch long maple?) and the canvas was 58-10 (58 inch wide number 10?). The canvas covering was added by Smith on December 2nd, 1911. Roy applied the first filler coat on the same day and Boyer added the second filler coat on January 20th, 1912. The keel was B (birch?) while the braces (thwarts) and seats were M (maple?). Camp added the rails on January 27th, 1912. The original color was B (bright?) green and was painted by Watts on February 3rd, 1912. It was shipped to W Phila (Wanamaker's, Philadelphia?) on June 11th, 1912.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. My guess is that your canoe was once part of the rental fleet at Hack's canoe retreat. That is amazing! I think both of your suppositions are correct - that it shipped to Philadelphia. I am in West Philadelphia, and while we can't say what the "W" stands for in the order, and Wanamakers is certainly a possibility, I can just enjoy the fact that it has returned to W. Phila. Second, that it was part of E. Hack's fleet is most surely the answer. Based on the link you provided to the Old Town that was part of E. Hack's fleet, it is the same color scheme. Gray/green, with a Darker green stripe and yellow pinstripe.

Thank you so much for being such an amazing resource. Now I must mill some maple to make my new seats!
