mildewcide ?

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I've been reading about mildewcide, I'm still way confused.
I bought untreated canvas from a local builder; I'm recanvassing an Old Town rowboat.

In today's world 7-4-2024, in the US, what are you using for a mildewcide?

The guy I got the canvas from, told me to use something called "Woodlife Classic".

I'm not convinced that something for wood, is going to help with mildew, hence my question.

I get mine from Sherwin=Williams. It's a small bottle and I have them mix it into the filler. I think some latex primers like Kilz premium already have it. But I don't have much experience with kilz. My mentor just said to be sure it is an exterior primer type of latex.

I've used this many times.

Zachary;

How are you applying the M-1?

Do you mix it with the filler/paint/primer, or are you rolling it on, spraying it on, or brushing it on the canvas?
Do you think you get a "good soak" into the canvas, or just a topcoat on the outer surface of the canvas?

Have you tried applying the M-1 to the canvas that rests against the wood?

How about stuffing the canvas in a plastic barrel with the M-1 solution before applying the canvas?
If a guy tried this, would it be better to apply the canvas wet, or let it dry before tacking it down?

I will definitely check it out, I'd like to canvas the boat, but not until I have this mildewcide figured out.

Thanks
Jim

Dave;

Thanks for the update.
My wood canvas canoes/boats, get to live in my heated shop, so they are always properly stored.

I've bought several WC canoes over the years, where the owners stored them out on the side of their garage, they don't fair quite as well as being IN the garage. lol

Jim, Mixed in with the filler ingredients. I don't overthink it. Just a couple dollars of insurance.

Storage matters. My Morris has not been re-canvased in 35 years. It was not a treated canvas and no fungicide was used on it.
It's been heavily used, but always properly stored. It will not need a new canvas for as long as I continue to own it, unless I ding it up.
