metal for clinching strips on mold

I am building a mold for a ribbed canoe and need the metal for the clinching strips. I tried using some flashing strips but the nails pierce the metal and don't clinch. What are you using out there and where did you get it. All help is apprecciated.

26 to 22 Gage galvanized steel. Look in your yellow pages and find a local sheet metal shop They should be able to cut them out of scrap from behind the shear
