Repairing an Old Town 1946 HW sailing canoe. I need to replace a few ribs, planks and gunawales. Looking for a source of ceder stock. Ideally 4” wide riff sawn. Ideally within 200 miles or with ability to ship.

Hi I don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm currently working on an Old Town HW 145986 built in 1946 as well. How close are their serial numbers?

was your canoe a sailing canoe and did it have sponsons? I am looking for information on sponsons since mine had them but they are missing now. I would like any information on the keel which was part of my canoe but is gone now.

Henry,
Check this link for materials….

Glad Dave could point you in the right direction and no my HW was not fitted as a sailing canoe nor did it have sponsons. Mine also did not have a keel when I got it but I'm adding one as the holes were screwed into the ribs for one. It's one I had hanging around in my shop not necessarily from an Old Town.
