I inherited my fathers wooden canoe and have been wanting some info on it. The only markings I can find are: A 77. Hoping someone will know what they mean. canoe.jpg

Canoes of laminated veneers, which appears to be what you have, were built by Plycraft, Molded Products, Dundee and a number of others. Photos of the inside of the canoe and decks might help narrow it down. Take a look at the canoe shown on the Finger Lakes Boating Museum page at http://www.flbm.org/. It's a Dundee. Tom McCloud

The United States Plywood Corporation made some that were known as a Weldwood model. These were available from a number of sources as shown below. Look for a Weldwood sticker under the stern seat. I don't know of any known sources of serial number or model number information for them. Penn Yan also offered one as described at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=1439&d=1145117275 in their 1942 catalog. The build records at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=1436&d=1145116570 and http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=1437&d=1145116570 indicate that Old Town also sold some in 1941. More pictures might help,

Benson
