Looking for Information on an Old Town Ranger

Hi,
I just purchased an Old Town Ranger from a gentleman in Wiscasset Maine that used to run a campground and used it as a rental boat. I'm trying to get a little more information on it. The stamped aluminum hull tag is XTC22310M79C. Now the zero could be an o and the C could be an o or a zero. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm also looking for any advice/directions on making replacement gunwales. I should probably count myself lucky that Island Falls Canoe is only a two hour drive but if I can save some money on this project I'd like to. I do have a table saw and a table mounted router.
Thanks,
Dave

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 222310 and hull identification number XTC22310M79C is a 17 foot long, Chipewyan Ranger model. It was built between July and September, 1978. The original exterior vinyl color was green. It shipped on October 16th, 1978 to Freeport, Maine. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Page eight of the 1978 catalog at https://www.woodencanoe.org/_files/ugd/537308_c90d9b8b9d22439aba78b75be0163b6a.pdf has more details. You should be able to duplicate the existing gunwales with your equipment. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the project,

Benson
