Looking for information on a canoe builder

I recently looked at a canoe in the Adirondacks. There is a brass tag on the stern which reads "G.H. Stokes, canoe builder, New York, New York" The owner believed that it was built in Brooklyn in the early 1980's. Its a 17 ft wood and canvas, interior is in excellent condition, outside the canvas is completely intact but can use a new coat of paint. Has anyone ever heard of this builder or have any idea of the value? Dean Voris

Dean, A few photo's would be very helpful. If you have them, post the deck label, decks, hull, thwarts etc. It's a great deal easier to help ID a craft when you can see it.
