I am looking for records on Old Town canoe with serial Number 183939
I seem to recall getting direct access to these records on line about 10 -12 years ago. I think I even posted a photo of a canoe once. Is that no longer available? Thanks.
Jeremy
The Old Town canoe with serial number 183939 is a 16 foot long guide model with a keel. It was built between September, 1969 and January, 1970. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 30th, 1971 to Old Forge, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.
It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. There was a system crash in 2004 and all of the earlier forum messages including the serial number searches were lost. The message at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?10494-New-Old-Town-serial-number-charts&p=54642#post54642 explains why a "self-service" serial number area on the WCHA site has never been implemented. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
