Hello. I was given an Old Town Canoe serial # 56133 and am looking to find out more about it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 56133 is a 15 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW (Heavy Water) model with red western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between 1919 and April, 1920. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 12th, 1920 to Mount Vernon, New York. A scan of this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at https://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the project,

Benson

Thank you so much. Unfortunately, I believe this boat has been fiber glassed, so I know it is of little value, but it is in incredible condition and still seems like a very special canoe to me.

You can clearly still get some good use out a canoe like this, even if it has been fiberglassed. Removing fiberglass can be a miserable job so that does tend to kill the market value. Enjoy,

Benson
