Hello all:

Our old Lakefield Boat and Manufacturing Co.canoe requires repair of damaged strips mainly.

The number stamped on the top of the stem near the bow is 550 79.

We are trying to determine the exact type of wood used for the strips. If Eastern White Cedar is this available in up to 16' lengths if needed in Central Ontario?

Yes, Eastern White Cedar is available in long lengths, if you know where to look.

Here are photos of one I did. Working on them is a bit of a challenge. The strips are white cedar. The gunwales are ash and the decks are butternut. https://andrewhutyera.smugmug.com/Lakefield-Restoration/ The copper tacks are only available from a few sources. You have a beautiful canoe well worth the effort to restore.

Thanks both Rob and Andy ...yes the strips are along the sides and bottom. Difficult to use the Endangered Butternut (Juglans cinerea) today, luckily not needed!
