Kennebeck no 18116 - 17

The Kennebec canoe with serial number 18116 is shown on pages 166 and 167 of volume three in the Kennebec ledgers. This was assigned to 17 foot long Katahdin Model, type a. It was planked by Cameron on October 18th, 1924. The canvas covering was applied by Leonard on October 25th, 1924 and the first filler coat was applied by Tuttle on the same day. The second filler coat was applied by Leonard on December 6th, 1924. It was railed by Huard(?) on February 14th, 1925. The original paint color was green with a gold swastika on both sides of the bow. The shipping date was March 8th, 1926 to location "26-112". This location is probably an order number but we don't currently have enough information to identify it. The original Kennebec records are stored at the Maine State Museum. I am unable to attach a scan of these records since their policies do not permit any electronic reproduction of their materials.

The Katahdin model had tall recruve stems similar to the Old Town Molitor model as shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-tow...s/large-65.gif and the Kennebec type A was similar to the Old Town CS grade. This is great news. The people I got it from thought is was purchased in Stockholm in the -40 ies. It has an aluminum Kennebeck nameplate with number, numbered stems and a Kennebeck decal on the other deck. (To me it looks like e cheaper build than my OT CS Charles River 1913) .
