I'm sorry for the long delay in answering this request but it has been a busy summer. The Kennebec canoe with serial number 103026 is shown on pages 224 and 225 of volume four in the Kennebec ledgers. This was assigned to 16 foot long Kineo Special Model. It was planked by Morgan on March 7th, 1931. The canvas covering was applied by F. Thib. on March 7th, 1931 and he applied first filler coat on March 14th, 1931. The second filler coat was applied by C. Thib. on June 20th, 1931 and it was railed by King on the same day. The "F 22" (Function number 22 or the keel?) was completed on June 20th, 1931(?) by Giroux(?). The "F 24" (Function number 23 or the rails?), "F 25" (Function number 25 or the seats?), and "F 28" (Function number 28 or painting?) were all completed by Leonard on July 11th, 1931. The original color was green. It was packed by Orchard(?) on July 11th, 1931 and shipped on July 10th, 1931 to location "31-546". This location is probably an order number but we don't currently have enough information to identify it. (I realize that the last two dates appear to be out of sequence and may be errors but that appears to be what the records show.)

The scans of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. It was too large for a single file attachment here so I had to split each page down the middle. These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum.

The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA). I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

More information about this and other Kennebec models can be found in the Kennebec catalogs contained on the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection CDs available from http://www.wcha.org/catalog/ and http://www.dragonflycanoe.com/cdrom.htm on the web.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
