I just got back from another outstanding Maine Canoe Symposium (https://www.mainecanoesymposium.org/) at Camp Caribou (https://www.campcaribou.com/) and was interested to find two nice Kennebec war canoes there. This pair originally shipped to another camp in the area and have been at Camp Caribou for many years.

The 25 foot Kennebec "War Canoe" model with serial number 19332 is shown on page 186 of volume three in the Kennebec ledgers. It was planked by Roy and Lantigne on January 8th, 1927. The canvas covering was applied by Roy on February 26th, 1927. The first filler coat was applied by Grant on the same day. He also applied the second filler coat on March 5th, 1927.

The one with serial number 19721 is shown on page 189 of the same ledger. It was planked by Roy and Morgan on March 3rd, 1928. The canvas covering first filler coat were applied by Williams on the same day. The rails were installed by King on July 21st, 1928.

Both canoes shipped on July 21st, 1928 to location "28-956". This location is probably an order number but we don't currently have enough information to identify it. The scans of these build records are attached below. These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum. The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA). Page 13 of the 1928 Kennebec catalog at https://woodencanoemuseum.org/index.php/manufacturer-catalog/kennebec-1928 describes these canoes.

Fun stuff,

Benson
