kennebec/Morris beam

Gil Cramer

The wooden canoe Shop, Inc.
Does anyone know the beam for a Kennebec torpedo nose 18'9" loa canoe including outside stems? The canoe has no original thwarts nor seats; Morris style stems; closed gunnels with rabbeted inwale, not pocketed. The canoe looks "fair" with a 37" rail beam and 12 1/2" depth. Can not find a serial number.

The 18 foot long Kennebec "Torpedo" Model was first listed in the 1917 catalog with a 34 inch width and 11 1/2 inch depth as you may know already. It was last listed in the 1927 catalog with the "Width on Rails" as 32 1/2 inches, the "Width Extreme" as 34 1/2 inches, and the "Depth amidships" as 11 1/2 inches. More information like this is available at http://store.wcha.org/The-Historic-...pany-Catalog-Collection-Version-2-CD-ROM.html if you want additional details.
