Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 182324 is an 18 foot long Otca model with a keel. It was built between December, 1968 and March, 1969. The original exterior paint color was similar to the one shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/designs/design04.gif which was known as design number four. It shipped on April 25th, 1969 to Rochester, New York. A scan of this build record can be found below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. The 18 foot version of the Otca model was last listed in the 1979 catalog and the 18 foot version of the Guide model lasted until 2009 as shown at https://oldtownwatercraft.johnsonou...les/2023-01/old_town_2009_product_guide_0.pdf on page 22. It doesn't seem likely that this is the last 18 foot long wood canoe from Old Town. Canoes with a family connection are always extra special. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Thank you Benson. I will most certainly donate and I appreciate your information. The paint design is an exact match. My father must have been the original owner because the shipping date and destination matches up. He’s 96 years old now and doesn’t remember much about it but I will try and share with him anything I find out. It might help him remember.
