Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 134806 is an 18 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Guide model with white Maine cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between February and May, 1942. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on May 12th, 1942 to West Ossipee, New Hampshire. A scan of this build record is shown below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you for that info. I also have another Old Town wood and canvas with a serial number that is 55865 15. It is 15’ long but that’s all I know. Can you tell me more about this canoe. I believe it’s been redone, some of the bolts are diamond head and some are filled countersunk. Been told it’s one of their 50 models made around 1915 but would like to know for sure what it is. Thank you

The Old Town canoe with serial number 55865 is a 15 foot long, CS grade, fifty pound model with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between August and September, 1919. The original exterior paint color was dark red. It shipped on September 17th, 1919 to Wellfleet, Massachusetts. A scan of this build record can be found below.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Old Town started using diamond headed bolts in the early 1920s so the ones on your canoe were added in later repairs. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
